2023 ISPE Europe Annual Conference Session: The Advantages of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Women in Pharma® hosted a general session at the 2023 ISPE Europe Annual Conference, The Science Behind Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Moderated by ISPE Member and Senior Biotech and Pharma Consultant, Lineke Pelleboer, the panel welcomed Diane Hustead, Executive Director, Regulatory Affairs at Merck, Monica Dias, Head of Supply and Availability of Medicines and Medical Devices for the EMA, and Darius Smith, Director of DE&I at Genmab.
The session kicked off with a riveting presentation by Darius Smith, who broke down the importance of DEI as an industry standard following the inequalities exposed through the Covid-19 pandemic, and the importance of adopting it as an industry standard. Smith discussed how DEI could help cultivate innovation, creativity, and mutual respect for a variety of cultures and backgrounds. The session then turned to the panelists to follow up on these points and discuss the importance of a more inclusive pharmaceutical industry, and how a more inclusive workforce can benefit patient care overall.
