The Facility of the Year Awards is the premier global awards program recognizing innovation and creativity in manufacturing facilities serving the regulated healthcare industry. The award-winning projects selected by the Facility of the Year Awards program set the standard for pharmaceutical facilities of the future by demonstrating excellence in facility design, construction, and operations.

BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Inc. is the winner of the Project Execution Category Award for its Project FAITH which entailed transforming a basic infrastructure in Novato, California USA into one of the first gene manufacturing facilities of its kind in the world—in just 14 months.
Shire won the Facility Integration Category Award for its construction of a new 120,000 square foot purification facility (Building 8) in Los Angeles, California USA. The Application of excellent and innovative design practices as well as superior planning led to the successful integration of Shire’s new facility into an existing operational campus.
The Operational Excellence Category was awarded to Shire’s Quality Control Laboratory in Los Angeles, California USA. This project addressed the development and operationalization of a next generation quality control lab to meet the increasing global demand for plasma derived therapies.
Vetter Pharma-Fertigung GmbH & Co.KG is the winner of the Facility of the Future Category Award for its project to optimize pharmaceutical processes at its Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics in Ravensburg, Germany. The facility features a significant number of unique, innovative solutions, including flexible options for utilizing space and expanding the site to fit customer needs.
The Sustainability Category was awarded to Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Co, a Pfizer Company, for its Pfizer Consumer Health manufacturing facility in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. Project Diamond set a new bar by creating a facility that embraces a holistic approach to sustainability going far beyond application of Good Engineering Practices.
Emergent BioSolutions, Inc. received an Honorable Mention for its BARDA Center for Innovation in Advanced Development and Manufacturing (CIADM) in Baltimore, Maryland USA. The facility represents a unique partnership between industry and government that can act rapidly to stop significant public health threats.
An Honorable Mention was also given to the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) for its success in applying Quality by Design principals and international best practices to manufacture affordable HIV medicines in their Rangsit Pharmaceutical Production Plant 1 in Pathumthani, Thailand.
The 2018 Facility of the Year Awards Category Winners will be formally recognized at the ISPE Facility of the Year Awards Banquet and Dinner on 4 November, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. Held in conjunction with the ISPE Annual Meeting & Expo, the banquet will feature acceptance speeches from the Facility of the Year Awards recipients and presentations from noted industry leaders. The 2018 Facility of the Year Overall Winner will be announced at the conference during the Member Breakfast and Awards ceremony.
