The ISPE International Honor Awards provide the opportunity for all of us to recognize and celebrate the dedicated professionals who are volunteering countless hours to support ISPE in its mission.
2024 International Honor Awards Winners
Max Seales Yonker
Member of the Year Award
This award honors the ISPE Member who has made the most significant contribution to the Society during the past 12 months. It is named in honor of a dynamic lady who contributed to the Society in many different ways and served as a source of inspiration during her battle with cancer.
Dr. Niranjan Kulkarni has been awarded the Max Seales Yonker Member of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions to ISPE over the past 12 months. His involvement in multiple ISPE Communities of Practice, co-authorship of the 2023 ATMP Good Practice Guide, and leadership in key initiatives have significantly advanced both the Society and the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Kulkarni’s work on the ATMP guide and his recent article on supply chains have been widely adopted by companies, underscoring the tangible impact of his efforts. His presentations at major ISPE conferences and his role in the 2023 ISPE Annual Meeting further highlight his influence.
In addition to his technical contributions, Dr. Kulkarni has been a tireless advocate for member engagement, particularly encouraging young professionals to get involved with ISPE. His leadership and mentorship have inspired others to join and contribute to the Society, expanding ISPE’s reach and influence. Through his dedication, Dr. Kulkarni exemplifies the qualities honored by the Max Seales Yonker Award—commitment, service, and lasting impact on the ISPE community.
Richard B. Purdy
Distinguished Achievement Award
This award honors an ISPE Member who has made significant, long–term contributions to the Society. It will not necessarily be presented annually. It is named after one of the Society’s founders and most accomplished Presidents.
Roger has made an extraordinary impact on both ISPE and the pharmaceutical industry over the last 20 years, consistently driving global regulatory harmonization and advancing industry standards. His leadership of ISPE’s Regulatory Steering Council and his instrumental role in launching the ISPE Global Harmonization Initiative exemplify his ability to bridge the gap between regulators and industry. Roger's contributions include co-leading efforts addressing critical pharmaceutical concerns, such as nitrosamine controls, and pioneering the ISPE Technology without Borders program, which provides essential guidance and training to emerging economies. His influence has extended globally, with over 40 publications and more than 200 presentations at major regulatory bodies and industry forums.
Roger is highly respected as a thought leader and mentor, sought after for his expertise in uniting diverse stakeholders to address complex issues. His leadership in advancing Quality by Design (QbD) principles has transformed manufacturing practices, with his work on ICH guidelines improving global standards. His ability to foster collaboration, innovation, and mentorship within the industry has made him a trusted figure and a true champion of industry-regulator cooperation, embodying the essence of the Richard B. Purdy Award.
Joseph X. Phillips
Professional Achievement Award
This award honors an ISPE Member who has made a significant contribution to the Industry, not just ISPE. Named in honor of Joe Phillips, longtime supporter of ISPE and a leader in establishing the Society as an “integrator” of industry and regulators, both during his years of service with the FDA and later when he became International Regulatory Affairs Advisor to ISPE, this award is given infrequently to recognize the extraordinary contributions of its recipients.
Dr. Antonio Moreira was awarded the Joseph X. Phillips Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to both the pharmaceutical industry and ISPE. Over the course of two decades, Dr. Moreira’s strategic leadership within ISPE has been transformative. From founding the ISPE Chesapeake Bay Area Chapter to serving as a board member on the International Board of Directors, his impact has been far-reaching. Notably, as Chair of the ISPE Foundation, Dr. Moreira was instrumental in launching the Technology without Borders program, which provided critical access to industry best practices in emerging economies. His efforts in Brazil, including partnerships with the Brazilian Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and ANVISA, were key to the program’s success, demonstrating his ability to bridge industry, regulatory bodies, and global communities.
TDr. Moreira’s influence extended well beyond ISPE, as he was a prominent speaker at international conferences and an advocate for professional development, particularly for students and emerging leaders. His numerous publications, leadership in biotechnology training, and commitment to knowledge sharing have left an indelible mark on the industry. Dr. Moreira’s passion for education, innovation, and philanthropy truly exemplified the values of the Joseph X. Phillips Achievement Award, honoring those who have made significant and lasting contributions to the pharmaceutical field.
Affiliate and Chapter
Excellence Award
This award recognizes the outstanding work of the International Affiliates and Chapters as reflected by membership development and services, management, industry and society support, and innovation.

Since 2021, the Chapter has increased its membership by 9% and achieved a remarkable retention rate of 84.5%, the highest among US chapters. This success is attributed to a broad range of creative initiatives, including mentor circles, career workshops, STEM programs, and engaging events like golf clinics and social gatherings. In 2023 alone, the Chapter hosted 19 events, drawing over 1,460 attendees—a 59% increase from the previous year. Its commitment to diverse educational and networking opportunities, strong leadership, and effective succession planning has fostered a vibrant, engaged community.

Committee of the Year Award
ISPE Baseline Guide Pharma 4.0 Team
This award recognizes the outstanding work of one of the Society’s committees, councils, task teams, or community of practice steering committees.
The Pharma 4.0 Committee’s Baseline Guide Team was recognized with the Committee of the Year Award for its exceptional contributions to advancing ISPE's mission. The team produced the groundbreaking Pharma 4.0 Baseline Guide, featuring over 35 innovative digital use cases, marking a significant addition to ISPE's knowledge base. This guideline not only establishes ISPE as a leader in shaping the future of the pharmaceutical industry but also creates a new revenue stream for the organization. The committee's work exemplifies innovation and aligns with ISPE's strategic goals, positioning it at the forefront of industry development.
Company of the Year Award
This award recognizes the outstanding leadership and support provided by a company as reflected by significant active participation in the Society’s committees, CoPs, programs, and activities as well as its support of employee participation in ISPE. Applications are encouraged from large and small companies of all types.
Takeda was honored with the Company of the Year Award for its outstanding leadership and active participation within ISPE. Over the past five years, Takeda has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the Society, with its employees dedicating significant time to ISPE’s committees, conferences, and initiatives. Takeda has delivered more than 40 expert presentations and 8 keynote addresses at major ISPE events, and hosted key programs, such as Hackathons and expert conferences at their sites in Vienna and Los Angeles. The company has also been recognized for its innovation and excellence, receiving 6 Facility of the Year Awards (FOYA) in the past three years, a first in ISPE history. Takeda's support of ISPE’s mission, coupled with its leadership in organizing and moderating key events like the FOYA judging committees and various expert panels, underscores its deep engagement and lasting contributions to the global pharmaceutical community.
