Tod Urquhart and Alessandro Pelizzi, both active members of ISPE, connected with Bioprocess Online to share insights on a new ISPE Guide which they helped to develop: ISPE Good Practice Guide: Unique Identification of Glass Primary Containers in Pharmaceutical Fill and Finish Operations.
They discussed the benefits and challenges associated with implementing unique container identification (CUID) in biopharmaceuticals. CUID improves traceability, helps manage quality, and could reduce the risk of drug mix ups, but implementing it can be challenging. The new ISPE Guide offers best practices for applying CUID to glass primary containers.
