Manufacturing and Supply Chain: Making Space Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Leaders from the pharmaceutical industry are providing suggestions to their peers and colleagues, in anticipation of continued supply chain shortages next year. Among them, Omair Ahmed, COO, Nexus Pharmaceuticals, and member of ISPE, recommends creating a state-of-the-art facility with an emphasis on quality. Ahmed, whose company received an honorable mention for its project Tomorrow at the 2023 Facility of the Year Awards (FOYA) Ceremony, notes that Nexus hopes to make serious progress in the battle against drug shortages. Further, he adds that the biopharmaceutical industry is attempting to work directly with healthcare facilities to provide long-term supply of products outside of the normal distribution channels to help stabilize market fluctuations. This, in turn, will ideally lead to a reduction in spot shortages in the market.
