  • Pitting Corrosion

Pitting corrosion is another form of galvanic corrosion and is an extremely localized type leading to the creation of small pits or holes at the surface of the metal. This type o corrosion is of great concern because once a pit is initiated there is a strong tendency for it to continue to grow, even though the majority of the surrounding steel is unaltered. The driving force for this phenomenon is the lack of oxygen around a small area; this area becomes anodic while the area with excess of oxygen becomes cathodic.
