An ACGIH designated degree of exposure to contaminants and expressed as parts of vapor or gas per million parts of air by volume at 25°C and 760mmHG pressure, or as approximate milligrams or particulate per cubic meter of air (mg/m³). An exposure level under which most people can work consistently for 8 hours a day, with no harmful effects. TLVs are listed as either an 8-hour TWA or a 15-minute STEL.

Tumor Necrosis Factor
TNKase
Tenecplase
TNT
Tumor Necrosis Therapy
TNT (Tumor Necrosis Therapy)
Therapeutic agents that target dead and dying cells found primarily at the core of the tumor.

Total Organic Carbon
TOC (Total Organic Carbon)
Toe of Weld
The junction between the face of a weld and the base material.
Tolerance
Tolerance is the permissible deviation from a specified value.
Tolerance
A form of genetic resistance in which an organism attacked or affected by a disease pathogen (or pest) exhibits less reduction in yield or performance in comparison with members of other affected cultivars or breeds.
Ton of Refrigeration
A unit used to indicate the size of a refrigeration unit. One ton of refrigeration effect is equivalent to removing 12,000 Btu/hr of heat, or melting one ton of ice in a 24-hour period.

Top-Down Design
Pertaining to design methodology that starts with the highest level of abstraction and proceeds through progressively lower levels.
Top-Down Estimate
“Rule of Thumb” estimate based upon an overall project estimate using only one parameter to determine the value (i.e., level of required regulatory compliance, square footage, similar building type, similar systems comparison).
Top-Down Project
Project initiated by a business owner wanting a capability installed to discover or manufacture a product.
Topical
A medication applied to the skin, an ointment. Usually a medicament suspended in a carrier such as petrolatum or another oil based carrier. Filtration at elevated temperatures is usually possible.
Topical Product
A pharmaceutical product meant to be applied to the skin or soft tissue in the form of liquid, cream, or ointment, and therefore needs not be aseptic. Sterile ophthalmic products throughout are manufactured aseptically.
Tor
An obsolete unit of pressure equal to that exerted by a column of mercury 1mm high at 0°C and standard gravity (1mm Hg); named after Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), the inventor of the mercury barometer. 1 Torr = 1/760 atm = 133.322 Pa.
Total Airflow Rate
Air volume that passes through a section of an installation in unit of time.
Total Bacteria Count
An estimation of the total number of bacteria in a sample based usually on Standard Methods procedures for collecting, incubating, and counting colony-forming units (cfu).
