  • Sourcing

The evaluation, selection, and supply of a specific drug based on assessment of factors including:•dosage forms•product strength and presentation•lead-time for acquisition•importantion issues•blinding complexity•costs
  • Southern Blot

A cellulose or nylon membrane to which DNA fragments previously separated by gel electrophoresis have been transferred by capillary action. Named after Ed Southern.
  • Southern Blotting

A technique for transferring denatured DNA molecules that have been separated electrophoretically, from a gel to a matrix (such as a nitrocellulose membrane) on which a hybridization assay can be performed.
  • SOW

    Scope of Work
  • SOX

Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (United States)
  • Spaghetti Code

Program source code written without a coherent structure. Implies the excessive use of GOTO instructions.
  • Sparge

To spray. A sparger is the component of a fermentor that sprays air into the broth.
  • Sparger

A device used to agitate, oxygenate, aerate, or add a chemical to a liquid by means of compressed air or gas.
  • Spatial Separation

    -
  • Spatter

The metal particles expelled during welding that do not form part of a weld.
  • SPC

    Summary of Product Characteristics
  • SPC

    Supplementary Protection Certificates
  • SPC

    Statistical Process Control
  • SPCB

    Structural Pest Control Board (California)
  • SPCC

    Spill Prevention and Countermeasures Rule
  • Special Case Testing

A testing technique using input values that seem likely to cause program errors; e.g., "0", "1", NULL, empty string.
  • Special Test Data

(NBS) Test data based on input values that are likely to require special handling by the program.
  • Species

In chemistry, a particular kind of atomic nucleus, atom, molecule, or ion.
  • Specific Conductance

The reciprocal of specific resistance usually expressed in micromhos/cm.
  • Specific Humidity

The weight of water vapor in each pound of dry air expressed in grains of moisture per pound of dry air, or pounds of moisture per pound of dry air. NOTE: 7,000 grains = 1.0 pound.Humidity of air mixtures is normally discussed in terms of grains of moisture per pound rather than the more common term of relative humidity because the grains of moisture in an air stream do not change when it is heated or cooled, unless condensation takes place. (also see: Grain)
  • Specific Ion Determinations

Electrochemical measurement of trace ion levels in solution.
  • Specific Model Virus

(ICH Q5A (R1)) Virus which is closely related to the known or suspected virus (same genus or family), having similar physical and chemical properties to those of the observed or suspected virus.
  • Specific Resistance

The resistance of a one-centimeter cube of water to the passage of electricity under standard conditions, expressed in ohms/cm. A measure of the Total Ionized Solids concentration.
  • Specific Test

(ICH Q6A) A test which is considered to be applicable to particular new drug substances or particular new drug products depending on their specific properties and/or intended use.
  • Specific Volume

In Psychrometry, the cubic feet of the mixture per pound of dry air.
