  • Coding DNA

Sequences transcribed into protein structures: also called exons.
  • Coding Sequence

That portion of a gene which directly specifies the amino acid sequence of its protein product. Non-coding sequences of genes include control regions, such as promoters, operators and terminators, as well as the intron sequences of certain eukaryotic genes.
  • Coding Standards

Written procedures describing coding (programming) style conventions specifying rules governing the use of individual constructs provided by the programming language, and naming, formatting, and documentation requirements which prevent programming errors, control complexity and promote understandability of the source code. Synonyms: Development Standards, Programming Standards.
  • Codominance

Situation in which two different alleles for a genetic trait are both expressed.
  • Codon

A set of three nucleotides in mRNA, functioning as a unit of genetic coding by specifying a particular amino acid during the synthesis of polypeptides in a cell. A codon specifies a transfer RNA carrying a specific amino acid, which is incorporated into a polypeptide chain during protein synthesis. The specificity for translating genetic information from DNA into mRNA, then to protein, is provided by codon-anticodon pairing.
  • COE

    Certificate of Exportability
  • CoE

    Center of Excellence
  • Coenzyme

A non-polypeptide molecule required for the action of certain enzymes; often contains a vitamin as a component. Coenzymes are smaller than the enzymes themselves and sometimes separable from them.
  • Cof O

    Certificate of Origin
  • COFEPRIS

Comisión Federal para la protección contra riesgos sanitarios (Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks (Mexico)
  • COG

    Cost of Goods
  • Cognitive Impairment

Some disorder that affects cognitive or emotional functions to the extent that capacity for judgment and reasoning is significantly diminished.
  • Cognitively Impaired

Having either a psychiatric disorder (e.g., psychosis, neurosis, personality or behavior disorders, or dementia) or a developmental disorder (e.g., mental retardation) that affects cognitive or emotional functions to the extent that capacity for judgment and reasoning is significantly diminished. Others, including persons under the influence of or dependent on drugs or alcohol, those suffering from degenerative diseases affecting the brain, terminally ill patients, and persons with severely disabling physical handicaps, may also be compromised in their ability to make decisions in their best interests.
  • Cohort

A group of subjects initially identified as having one or more characteristics in common who are followed over time. In social science research, this term may refer to any group of persons who are born at about the same time and share common historical or cultural experiences.
  • COI

    Conflict of Interest
  • Coisogenic

Nearly identical strains of an organism; they vary at only a single locus.
  • Coke Can

  • Cold

Any temperature not exceeding 8ºC (46ºF) is cold. A refrigerator is a cold place in which the temperature is maintained thermostatically between 2º and 8ºC (36º and 46ºF
  • COLD

    Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease
  • Cold Flow

A time-dependant strain of solids resulting from stress.
  • Cold Molding

The process of compression molding involving shaping an unheated compound in a mold under pressure then heating the article to cure it.
  • Cold Pilgering

  • Coliform Bacteria

A group of bacteria found in mammalian intestines and soil, used as a measure of fecal pollution in water. They are easy to identify and count in the laboratory because of their ability to ferment lactose.
  • Collaborative Approach

Project execution approach characterized by early and continued collaboration by all key project stakeholders.
  • Collagen

An albuminoid present in connective tissue, bone (ossein), and cartilage (chondrin) notable for its high content of the imino acids proline and hydroproxilone. On boiling with water it is converted into gelatin.
