Xianglin Shi, PhD, is Principal Scientist, ASO Process Development and Manufacturing at Biogen. Xianglin received a BS in chemistry from Yanan University and an MS from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After teaching chemistry at Yanan University for several years, he came to the United States to extend his education. He obtained an MS from Auburn University and a PhD from Emory University. Xianglin began his industrial career at Rhodia Chirex, where he was the leading chemist for the development of several chemical processes. He then worked in the process research group at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Several years later, he joined the process chemistry group of Biogen and was involved in process R&D, scale-up, and manufacturing. In his most recent roles, he is responsible for oligonucleotide API process development, including solid-supported and solution-phase synthesis, and is involved in process validation, manufacturing, and worldwide regulatory filing.
