Michelle Batz is an Associate Director in the Analytical Sciences department within Pharmaceutical Sciences at Merck, West Point, PA. Over the last 11-1/2 years Michelle has held 5 different roles, all within the same department affording her opportunities to perform product development, clinical release and stability analysis, project management and serve as the lead for GxP Compliance. In Michelle’s current role she is managing a staff of 11 individuals that share responsibility for execution of all clinical release testing, IND stability testing, drug comparator release and stability testing, excipient/raw material release, compendial testing of packaging components and management of all cleaning validation/verification to support the oral solid dosage pilot plant, sterile dosage pilot plant and the packaging areas for Global Clinical Supplies operations. Michelle has played key roles in many cross-functional teams, enabling harmonization of processes and systems post-merger with Shering Plough Corp, engaging customer groups in evaluation of workstream cycle times and adapting to a new clinical supply support model placing all clinical release activities under her leadership. In addition to her day to day responsibilities Michelle is passionate about process optimization and creating a dynamic environment where her team is enabled to make sound scientific decisions and feel empowered to drive their professional development. Michelle has been a member of ISPE since 2013 and currently serves as a member on the OSD Steering Committee. She holds a B.S. in Chemisty from Arcadia University and M.S. in Organic Polymer Chemisty from Lehigh University.
