Carolina I. Serrano Martinez is a Process Control Engineer at Eli Lilly & Company’s new API manufacturing facility in Indiana. She started her career at Lilly as a member of the Corporate Engineering department, dedicated to pioneering new manufacturing technologies, overseeing the establishment of new manufacturing sites, and providing vital support to existing ones. Carolina's responsibilities encompass the development, optimization, automation and transfer of manufacturing processes to Lilly's sites in Ireland and Indiana ensuring a consistent and dependable supply of Lilly's essential medicines.
Carolina has showcased her leadership abilities within the company, contributing as a member of the Professional Development Committee of IGNITE and serving as the Communications lead for the Organization of Latinx at Lilly. She also fulfills the role of Point Captain for Lilly Engineering recruiting at her alma mater, Texas A&M University. In 2021, Carolina graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University, having earned a degree in Chemical Engineering, a minor in Engineering Project Management and certificates in International Engineering and Engineering Therapeutics Manufacturing. Carolina's commitment to her professional growth led her to attain the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification from NCEES in 2022.
An advocate for diversity in the pharmaceutical industry, Carolina actively mentors international students and contributes to the development of young talent through her engineering expertise, leadership and by launching MentorISPE, an international group mentorship program within Women In Pharma. Currently, she serves as the Emerging Leader Chair for the North America and South America Affiliate Council (NASAAC) within the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE). In this capacity, she dedicates herself to empowering and nurturing students and emerging leaders interested in the pharmaceutical industry, preparing them as the Workforce of the Future. Carolina leads a team that oversees numerous student chapters across North and South America, encompassing undergraduates, graduates, and professionals in the early stages of their pharmaceutical careers. Carolina is characterized by her visionary thinking, empathy, and her determination to achieve her goals and support others. She aims to continue bridging the gap between academia and industry by creating opportunities for diverse talent within the pharmaceutical sector.
