Bernd Steffens is currently Director and Sustainability Lead for Supply Chain Clinical Trials. Until June 2024, he was for more than 30 years Head of the Global Clinical Trial Supplies Unit at Boehringer Ingelheim, based in Biberach, Germany, or its predecessor organizations. Focus areas were Supply Chain Management in general and development of computerized systems to support this as well as outsourcing strategies, new supply chain strategies and expanding these to emerging markets. Before that, from 1991 to 1993, he was leading the process development labs in API manufacture at Boehringer Ingelheim, Biberach. He is chemist by profession with diploma and PhD from the Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum. He is a Member of ISPE and the European Investigational Products Community of Practice Steering Committee since 1996, serving as chairperson for some years. He has presented on various items to the pharmaceutical industry.
