Director of Engineering and Facilities
Steve Miller is currently the Director of Engineering and Facilities at the Baltimore Emergent BioSolutions facility. In this position his responsibilities include leading the Facilities department, Engineering, and EHS functions within the Baltimore drug substance plant. This includes preventative maintenance, repairs and corrective maintenance, calibrations, and utility systems operation. EHS covers the development of EHS policies and programs to the implementation and monitoring against those policies and reporting safety KPI’s. The engineering group manages site projects from concept through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning and qualification support as well as site technical troubleshooting support to Operations. <br><br>
The Baltimore Emergent site is designed to deliver on biodefense and health threat countermeasures in coordination with BARDA requirements. To maximize flexibility most process equipment is single use technology and organized into four separated processing areas allowing for simultaneous multi-product production of mammalian cell culture, microbial fermentation, or viral host organisms. <br><br>
Prior responsibilities included engineering project management, process engineering, automation systems, facility utilities and maintenance services, and equipment / facility qualification programs in positions with Medimmune, Centocor, Wyeth, GlaxoSmithKline, Genentech and Eli Lilly over a forty year long career. He was a Core Team member of the Biotechnology Baseline Guide development efforts.
