Christian Sonntag, PhD

Dr. Christian Sonntag is the Head of Digital Solutions at SIGMA Process & Automation GmbH, a leading provider of innovative automation, digitalization, data analytics, and manufacturing intelligence solutions for the process industry. With his team, Christian develops and commercializes novel innovative solutions for the digital transformation, digital production support, and digital engineering in complex industrial plants. Most of these solutions are based on industry-leading Digital Twins by INOSIM group, a provider of simulation software and digital solutions for the process industry. Christian studied electrical engineering and information engineering in Dortmund, Germany, and in London, UK. Subsequently, he completed his PhD in model-based digital engineering methods at the department of biochemical and chemical engineering at TU Dortmund, Germany. Chistian has many years of experience at the interface between cutting-edge research and its industrial applications. Before his current role, he was a senior researcher and manager of research, innovation, and strategy initiatives at regional, national, and European levels. Subsequently, he moved to INOSIM Group where he was, among other things, responsible for the development of the novel solution INOSIM Foresight for predictive operations support in industrial batch plants. Christian has many years of experience in the domains Operational Excellence, automation, modeling, simulation, and digital production. Christian is a lecturer at TU Dortmund and reads the Master-level course „Logistics of Chemical Production Processes“ that deals with supply chain management, discrete-event simulation, and mathematical methods for optimal production scheduling.
