AstraZeneca
Associate Principal Scientist
Nicholas (Nick) Guros is an associate principal scientist in the bioprocess technologies and engineering (BTE) team at AstraZeneca Biopharma (BPD). In this role, Nick led the design of the scale-up and clinical scale bioreactors (50 L and 500 L) for AZ’s continuous manufacturing technology development project, known as integrated dynamic bioprocessing (IDB). His experience in bioreactor design and control spans across technical support and modeling for fed-batch and intensified fed-batch tech transfers, commercial scale IDB bioreactor design, and ensuring success of AZ’s covid vaccine manufacture throughout AZ’s extensive CMO network during the pandemic. He also serves as the co-lead of the modeling, AI, simulations, and digital twins team in BPD. Nick received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Cornell University in 2012 and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park through a collaboration with NIST in Gaithersburg, MD in 2019.
