SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARD

SPOYA

The "Pharmaceutical Sustainability Project of the Year" award recognises exceptional initiatives within the pharmaceutical industry that demonstrate innovation and commitment to sustainability. This award honours projects that effectively minimise environmental impact, promote sustainable practices, and contribute to the overall well-being of communities and ecosystems.

Eligibility

  • Open to UK pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and organisations involved in any project within the pharmaceutical sector.
  • The project must have demonstrable results or impacts initiated or achieved between 01 October 2025 – 30 September 2026.
  • Evidence of sustainability integration into the project's planning, execution, and outcomes.

Criteria for Evaluation

  1. Innovation and Creativity
  • Demonstrates unique approaches and cutting-edge methods that differentiate the project from conventional practices.
  • Incorporates innovative solutions to address sustainability challenges in the pharmaceutical sector.
  1. Environmental Impact and Social Responsibility
  • Significantly reduces waste, emissions, or resource consumption.
  • Implements practices that enhance environmental preservation and conservation efforts.
  • Positively impacts surrounding communities and contributes to better health outcomes.

This award applauds projects that significantly improve efficiency, quality, and sustainability within the manufacturing domain through technological innovation and lean practice.

Eligibility

  • Open to pharmaceutical companies, technology providers, and organisations involved in or supporting the UK pharmaceutical industry.
  • The technology application must demonstrate tangible benefits achieved within 01 October 2025 – 30 September 2026.
  • Projects should illustrate the integration of innovative technology into manufacturing operations.

Criteria for Evaluation

  1. Innovation and Technological Advancement
  • Demonstrates the use of novel or advanced technology in manufacturing processes.
  • Pioneers new methods or applications that push industry boundaries.
  1. Impact on Manufacturing Efficiency
  • Significantly enhances productivity, reduces costs, or optimises resource usage.
  • Improves manufacturing processes, output quality, or turnaround times.
  1. Quality and Compliance

PHARMA 4.0 TRANSFORMATION OF THE YEAR AWARD

Overview

The "Pharma 4.0 Transformation" award recognises success and excellence in the digital transformation of pharmaceutical value chains. The nomination can be either a project or strategic implementation of solutions relating to the Pharma 4.0 Operating Model. The nomination should identify target use cases or outcomes driving the selection of solutions or process improvements that embed smart, connected, and data-driven capabilities across development, manufacturing, and supply chain improvement. This award applauds initiatives that align to the ISPE Pharma 4.0™ framework, integrating digital technologies and operating model enablers—people, process, technology, and data—to deliver measurable gains in efficiency, quality, compliance and sustainability consistent with the ISPE Pharma 4.0™ Operating Model and maturity concepts.

Eligibility

  • Open to pharmaceutical manufacturers, contract service providers (CDMOs/CMOs), technology vendors, and organisations supporting the UK pharmaceutical sector.
  • The implementation must demonstrate tangible benefits achieved within 01 October 2025 – 30 September 2026. However, they can also project ongoing benefit for future development.
  • Projects should illustrate integration of ISPE Pharma 4.0™ Operating Model enablers (people, process, technology, data) within GxP operations or their support functions, demonstrating clear alignment to ISPE’s guidance on digital maturity CPV/Quality 4.0 and GAMP 5 validation principles.

Criteria for Evaluation

  1. Innovation and Technological Advancement
  • Demonstrates innovation aligned to ISPE Pharma 4.0™ dimensions, including connectivity, capability, culture, and governance. 
  • Applies advanced digital technologies such as AI, digital twins, and predictive analytics to accelerate Pharma 4.0™ maturity  
  1. Impact on Manufacturing Efficiency
  • Improves operational performance through measurable gains in OEE, cycle time, yield, right-first-time, and resource efficiency.  
  • Delivers end-to-end value through cost reduction, increased throughput, and improved supply chain resilience.  
  1. Human and Organisational Enablement
  • Human-centric design that prioritises the human aspect for effective adoption of the technology.  
  • Workforce development and upskilling considerations to make employees future ready
  • Robust data governance, cybersecurity-by-design, supplier oversight, and validation lifecycle management. 
  1. Replicability and Scalability
  • Provides scalable reference architectures and reusable frameworks that enable deployment across sites and products.  
  • Embeds sustainable improvement through maintainable solutions, support models, and continuous enhancement cycles.

Eligibility

  • Open to collaborations between UK pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, academia, healthcare providers, and other organisations, such as design houses, consultancies and equipment manufacturers.
  • The collaboration must have measurable achievements or impacts within 01 October 2025 – 30 September 2026.
  • The project should demonstrate collaborative synergy and shared goals among partners.

Criteria for Evaluation

  1. Innovation and Scientific Advancement
  • Fosters ground-breaking technological advancements.
  • Leverages collaborative efforts to solve complex health challenges.
  1. Uniqueness
  • What is special about this collaboration, not seen on other projects?
  • What is uniquely achieved by collaboration not otherwise achievable or viable?
  1. Impact on Patient Outcomes
  • Evidently improves the industry in improving the health and quality of life for patients.
  • Contributes to the development of new treatments, therapies, or healthcare models.
  1. Effective Synergy and Teamwork
  • Demonstrates seamless integration of partner efforts, resources, and strengths, including novel ways of collaboration.
  • Engages diverse partners and stakeholders to enhance project delivery.
  • Illustrates effective communication, coordination, and shared decision-making.
  1. Scalability and Future Potential
  • Possesses potential for expanding the collaboration’s scope or applicability.
