The 2025 ISPE Pharma 4.0™ Conference will take place 9–10 December in Barcelona, Spain, and virtually. In the videos and transcripts that follow, International Program Committee Member Line Lundsberg-Nielsen highlights several planned technical tracks and shares what she is most looking forward to at this year’s conference.

I’d be happy to share with you…we have eight different tracks—I will be running two of the tracks.

One is on Data-Driven Quality Decisions, where we will be looking into: now that we get access to real-time data, what can we actually use these data for? How can we make quality decisions on the fly, instead of looking at data after things have happened, but actually take the needed actions? This really is a game-changer, I believe, in our industry.

The other track that I will be chairing will be Process Analytical Technology (PAT) as an Enabler for Digital Transformation. I'll be chairing that together with Christian Wölbeling, and we have both been part of the ISPE Process Analytical Technology and Lifecycle Control Strategy Community of Practice for many years. PAT was actually what kicked off Pharma 4.0—sort of the initiator. So now it's very exciting to have a full PAT track where we will be looking at PAT: how it's used in big, large commercial facilities down to new contract research organizations developing new platforms for customers, and how PAT is really an enabler there.

You will be introduced to new technologies. We will have so many exciting exhibitors present, so you can actually have discussions with them about how to solve some of your problems. And then there is networking—for me, that is really the most important thing because this is where you get connected to colleagues in Europe and globally who are working with the same challenges as you are. Maybe they have found a solution that actually works, and you can get some insight into how that worked, and you can also share what you are doing.

So you actually get some ideas of practical use cases—some of the starting points—and also how we combine all these use cases into a full digital transformation that you can do, for instance, for new greenfield facilities where we are designing these facilities to be fully digital from the beginning. All the roles and responsibilities will also be focusing on having digital operators—or operators who can maneuver all the digital tools, and in new ways.
