The professional community of pharmaceutical quality, validation, and compliance has recently lost one of its most respected figures. Reetu Chopra, a senior leader in computer systems validation (CSV) and a long standing contributor to ISPE’s GAMP® community, leaves behind a legacy defined by expertise, mentorship, and professional commitment.

Reetu Chopra
Senior Manager
ProductLife Group

Her career, spanning nearly three decades, reflects a life dedicated to improving regulated systems, strengthening compliance cultures, and supporting the people around her. Across the organizations she served—from global pharmaceutical companies to engineering consultancies and specialist validation firms—Reetu’s influence was consistent and deeply valued.

This tribute honours her professional journey, her contributions to the industry, and the impact she made on colleagues, teams, and the wider GxP community.

A Career Rooted in Technical Excellence and Patient Focused Purpose

Starting with an honors degree in applied statistics and computing, Reetu’s career began in the late 1990s. She worked as an Analyst Programmer at Crowder & Co. (1997–1999). This early experience in software development and programming shaped her understanding of systems from the inside out—a perspective that would later make her an exceptional CSV leader.

She transitioned into the pharmaceutical sector with Medeva, where she served as a Quality Control Compliance Support Officer (1999). She then moved into validation roles at Chiron/PowderJect/Evans Vaccines, supporting biotechnology operations involved in vaccine manufacturing. These early roles grounded her in the realities of regulated manufacturing and the importance of robust, compliant systems in protecting patient safety.

During the late 1990s she also augmented her education with further postgraduate qualifications in software technology and quality management.

By the early 2000s, Reetu had become a trusted validation specialist, joining Jacobs Engineering in 2003. Over the next seven years, she held multiple validation roles serving customers such as Eli Lilly and Company and Novartis. Her work through Jacobs placed her at the centre of major biotech and pharmaceutical projects, including new facility builds, business information systems, and large scale commissioning and qualification programmes. Professionally, she was always meticulous and reliable—someone who could be trusted with the most complex and sensitive validation challenges.

Expanding Influence Across Pharma and Biotech

Reetu’s ability to bridge technical detail with regulatory expectations made her a sought after consultant, and in 2011 she joined Teva Pharmaceuticals, where she would spend more than a decade shaping CSV quality, rising to Associate Director – CSV Quality.

At Teva, she worked with manufacturing, packaging, laboratory, and IT systems, strengthening CSV governance frameworks, leading global and regional validation programmes, coordinating cross functional teams, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory expectations and supporting digital transformation initiatives.

Her strategic approach enabled her to manage large scale validation demands within constrained resources. She could bring clarity to complex situations and was always focussed on quality.

A Senior Leader at Integrity

In 2022, Reetu joined Integrity, where, as CSV Senior Manager, she continued to shape global validation strategy, mentor teams, develop junior consultants and coordinate resources across multiple client engagements.

Her role at Integrity reflected the culmination of her career: a senior leader trusted not only for her technical expertise, but for her judgement, her professionalism, and her ability to guide organisations through the complexities of modern GxP digital systems.

A Pillar of the ISPE GAMP Community

Being an ISPE member for over two decades, one of the most significant aspects of Reetu’s professional legacy was her long service to ISPE’s GAMP Community of Practice (CoP), where she contributed to the GAMP UK CoP Steering Committee for a decade. Here she supported GAMP forums, both presenting and organising these events which are known for sharing current CSV knowledge, dissemination of good practice and the development of CSV and compliance professionals across the UK. She served as Co-Chair of the GAMP UK Steering Committee from 2024-2026.

Reetu remained deeply committed to the GAMP community whilst managing long-term health challenges and holding senior roles within the pharmaceutical industry. Her contributions ensured that practitioners had access to high quality guidance and peer support.

Contributions to ISPE Publications and Guidance

Reetu was always generous in sharing her knowledge and made significant contributions to a number of publications, including the ISPE GAMP Good Practice Guide: GxP Process Control Systems and ISPE GAMP RDI Good Practice Guide: Data Integrity – Manufacturing Records. As an example, both of these guides include a diagram that the authors refer to as “Reetu’s diagram” where she defined on one page all of the “Critical Records For Manufacturing Systems” (from the drug development process, through the control strategy, system validation and ongoing operational monitoring to the records captured during actual manufacture). Reetu was uniquely placed, not only because she encountered this breadth of data throughout her career, but because she had the rare ability to distil that complexity into practical, accessible knowledge for others. Most recently, Reetu made significant contributions to the just-published ISPE GAMP Good Practice Guide: Testing GxP Systems (Third Edition), which the team has dedicated to her memory.

A Mentor, a Guide, and a Steady Presence

Across her career, one theme appears repeatedly: Reetu was a mentor. She was patient, approachable, generous with her time, clear in her explanations and trusted. She helped shape careers, offering guidance that was both technically sound and personally encouraging. She was known for her ability to make complex topics understandable, and for her willingness to support others even when her own workload was heavy.

She had unwavering professionalism and a commitment to doing things correctly. She was the kind of professional whose presence made teams better. She was also fun to work with, always witty and with a ready chuckle.

Honoring Her Memory

This tribute honours:

  • Her expertise, built over nearly 30 years of dedicated work
  • Her leadership, recognised through senior roles and committee appointments
  • Her mentorship, which shaped the careers of many
  • Her integrity, which guided her decisions and earned deep respect
  • Her kindness, remembered warmly by colleagues across the industry

Reetu’s influence will continue through the systems she validated, the teams she strengthened, the guidance she helped shape and the people she mentored. In an industry where patient safety depends on the integrity of systems and the judgement of professionals, Reetu embodied the very best of what the field stands for. Her legacy is one of excellence, service, and humanity.

The Life Sciences industry and GAMP Community of Practice are better because of her contributions, and her memory will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps.
