ISPE: 45th Anniversary
When I watched this video the first time, it stopped me in my tracks and reminded me why our work matters as much as it does. The video carries us on a journey across time, beginning with the sound and feel of a carousel of slides, then moving into film-based photographs, then digital images, and finally to video. Each transition pulls us deeper into ISPE’s history, showing not only how far we have come but also who we have become along the way.
Watching it gave me a sense of gratitude for this community. Those early images reminded me of the foundation built by the people who came before me. They captured a time when ISPE was young, when our collective energy was fueled by determination and belief in the potential of collaboration. Even in those still images, you can feel the motion of something powerful taking shape. You see a group of professionals who know that when we learn together, we advance together.
As the history of images progressed, faces grew clearer, and interactions felt more personal. You can see members at conferences, at chapter events, in labs, and in classrooms. They were gathering, sharing, and discovering. You can see people forming relationships that would carry them through their careers. I found myself thinking of how many of us have found, not just colleagues through ISPE, but mentors, friends, partners, and sometimes even the spark that shaped our professional identity.
As the video went deeper, you could see stories layered together, capturing how our members have grown over time. You could see the evolution of technology, the changing complexity of the pharmaceutical industry, and the expanding global reach of our society. You could also see the evolution of our people. Many of you who might remember attending your first ISPE event and wondering what you might learn are now teaching, leading, volunteering, and guiding others. That sense of progression and shared development is one of the things that makes this community extraordinary.
As the video moved to its conclusion, you can feel a sense of momentum and a reminder that ISPE is not just honoring its past but actively shaping its future. You see members collaborating across borders, creating new solutions, uplifting one another, and pushing our industry toward greater quality, safety, innovation, and patient impact. You also almost feel the joy that comes from belonging to something meaningful, something that helps you become the best version of yourself.

As I reflect on the decades of progress captured in that short video, I am reminded of one simple truth: our greatest strength is our community.
