Leading Through Community: Highlights from the 2026 ISPE Recognition Event in Copenhagen, Denmark
On the evening of Monday, 20 April, the semiannual ISPE Volunteer Recognition event was held in conjunction with the 2026 ISPE Europe Annual Conference, where we had the distinct pleasure of hosting more than 110 of our incredible global volunteer leaders at the SOHO Kødbyen (Chow Room) in Copenhagen, Denmark for a special evening of appreciation and connection.
It was an opportunity to pause, step away from the busy schedule, and simply say thank you. At its core, ISPE’s strength doesn’t come from processes or structures, it comes from our people. Our volunteers are the true heart of this organization.
To everyone who joined us: thank you for your dedication, your leadership, and the immense impact you continue to make across our global community and the broader life sciences industry. We shape the future of pharma because of you.
Since 2022, we have made it a priority to host these recognition events twice a year, both at our Europe Annual Conference and the ISPE Annual Meeting and Expo. They are a wonderful way to bring together the leaders who represent every corner of our global organization, including:

- ISPE’s Professional Communities (Women in Pharma® and Emerging Leaders)
- Regional Steering Committees
- Affiliate and Regional Councils

Why We Do What We Do
We opened the evening by grounding ourselves in ISPE’s purpose: to enhance the quality of human life through the power of our community of life sciences professionals by sharing knowledge and igniting innovation.
That purpose wasn’t just something we spoke about; it was something you could feel. It was right there in the conversations, the laughter, the shared stories, and that unmistakable sense of real belonging.
Our guiding principles of acting with integrity, embracing collaboration, and leading with curiosity were on full display. I saw them living and breathing in the experiences people shared and the connections being built in real time. It was a strong reminder of exactly what’s possible when passionate professionals align around a shared mission.
Ultimately, our volunteers are the ones who bring ISPE’s three pillars of knowledge, community, and innovation to life every single day. Through their time, deep expertise, and leadership, they expand the reach of our work and directly help shape the future of our industry.
There is something very special about having the opportunity to look people in the eye and simply say thank you. So much of the work our volunteers do happens quietly behind the scenes throughout the year, and this evening gave us a chance to slow down, spend time together, and recognize the tremendous impact they have on ISPE and our industry.
What I will remember most is how natural and genuine the evening felt. People were sharing stories, laughing together, reconnecting with longtime colleagues, and welcoming new volunteers into the community. You could see how much these relationships matter. It felt less like a formal event and more like a gathering of people who truly enjoy working together and supporting one another.
I think evenings like this remind people that they are part of something much larger than themselves. When volunteers build friendships, exchange ideas, and see the impact of the community they are helping create, it strengthens the desire to stay involved and continue contributing. That kind of enthusiasm and commitment is what keeps ISPE moving forward.
Why Recognition Matters, and Why This Evening Stood Out
Events like this are so much more than a celebration. They are essential to how we sustain and grow. When we take the time to genuinely acknowledge each other's contributions, we reinforce what truly matters, strengthen our bonds, and inspire each other to keep pushing forward.
What made this evening so meaningful wasn’t just the great turnout, it was the spirit in the room. People weren’t just catching up. They were actively exchanging ideas, exploring new collaborations, and looking ahead at what more we can achieve together.
There were so many great moments, from watching longtime volunteers warmly welcome our newest leaders, to seeing cross-regional conversations sparking fresh ideas, and heartfelt reflections on the impact ISPE had had on careers and communities alike. It was a celebration, yes, but also a starting point for what comes next.
As we look to the future, gatherings like this will continue to play an important role in keeping our global community energized. They serve as a great reminder that every single contribution matters, and that together, we are building something meaningful that extends far beyond any single event or initiative.
