Melton has been recognized with the Richard B. Purdy Distinguished Achievement Award for her significant long-term contributions to ISPE. Melton, a member for over 25 years, first joined ISPE in 1997. Since then, she has been a returning speaker at ISPE events and conferences, been involved with more than 10 Communities of Practice (CoPs) and served on a plethora of committees and task teams. Her involvement in a vast array of initiatives highlights her dedication to sharing knowledge, inspiring innovation, and building community through cross-industry collaboration. Melton’s steady presence and countless hours of volunteering have been pivotal to ISPE and its impact on advancing excellence throughout the entire pharmaceutical industry.
Melton’s dedication to sharing knowledge is most prevalent through her involvement with ISPE Guidance Documents. Melton joined the Guidance Documents Committee in 2011. This committee’s role is to convert industry knowledge into globally relevant, high-quality Guidance Documents. In 2019, Melton became the Co-Chair of the committee until 2021 when she became the Chair through 2024. Throughout her time in these positions of leadership, she helped streamline the Guidance Documents development, prioritization, and review processes. As a result, the number of Guidance Documents published increased, filling critical knowledge gaps in the industry. In 2025, after her tenure as Chair, she continued to serve on the committee as Past-Chair, participating as a key mentor for the group. During her time of more than a decade on the committee, Melton influenced the development of many of ISPE’s 80+ Guidance Documents.

Prior to serving on the Guidance Documents Committee, Melton was deeply involved in the ISPE Project Management CoP where she served as Chair in 2005. Melton utilized her knowledge to lead and grow the group. Twenty years later the CoP now has more than 4,700 members and continues to influence best practices today. After her time as Chair, she continued her involvement by leading the team that wrote the ISPE Good Practice Guide: Project Management for the Pharmaceutical Industry, which was published in 2011.
Recently, Melton, along with some of her ISPE volunteer colleagues, helped bring attention to the need for industry best practices and resources on the topic of sustainability. Melton offered her time and expertise to help mentor the authors of the ISPE Sustainability Guidance Document, published in August 2025. Her leadership shaped the strategic direction of the document, ensuring that it brought together cross-functional teams to create technical content able to meet the industry’s needs. In 2023, prior to the publication of the Guide, Melton co-authored two sustainability related blogs for iSpeak: “Sustainability: Corporate Ambition, Governance, and Accelerated Delivery” and “Sustainability by Design for Pharmaceutical Products.” Sharing knowledge and an inspiring discussion around this critical industry topic within the former article, Melton and her co-authors wrote, “Our industry is committed to the patients we serve. This commitment goes beyond the efficacy, safety, and availability of products to address medical needs to include the environmental sustainability of our business operations and products. Comprehensive action by pharmaceutical companies is required to facilitate the necessary transformation for environmental sustainability.”
Melton’s ability to recognize industry gaps and support continued learning through her volunteer efforts aligns with ISPE’s commitment to advancing the life sciences. She has made significant contributions to ISPE and the industry—encouraging collaboration, inspiring industry excellence, and sharing pharmaceutical knowledge.
