ISPE 2017 Aseptic Processing Conference

The 2017 ISPE Aseptic Conference will take place 7 – 8 March in Reston, Virginia. As Co-Chair of the program committee, I am beyond excited to kick off the event and watch attendees explore the ideals behind this year’s theme:

Driving the Evolution in Aseptic Processing, Barrier/Isolator, Disposables, and Small-Scale Manufacturing

While there are many reasons why you should attend the 2017 ISPE Aseptic Conference, I’ve narrowed it down to three. First, the event will feature an impressive line-up of concurrent sessions for aseptic and barrier technology.

  • The Aseptic Track will present trends in aseptic processing and disposable technology. Attendees will be able to revisit their own processes, and potentially implement new ideas or modify their processes to meet current and coming standards.
  • The Barrier Track attendees will learn from global industry experts, through restricted access barrier systems (RABS) and Isolator case studies, why conventional clean-room process equipment is no longer “state of the art” for aseptic processing due to increased product contamination risk compared with properly used RABS and isolators.

Secondly, this two-day event includes a solution-filled exhibit hall that will provide the opportunity to learn about technological innovations currently trending in the aseptic sector. Exhibitors will have information on testing equipment and methods, process controls, filtration, and many of the applications used in aseptic processing and RABS. Third, the Interactive Regulatory Panel Session will allow you to get your most challenging questions answered, and hear regulators' questions for the audience. This session will use an interactive app to solicit questions from the audience, so bring your smart phones! And last but not the least, the ever popular Industry Panel will feature, the latest in clean room technologies, and will present advantages and disadvantages of eBeam, Slitter, NO2-Decontamination, Autoclave, Syringe tub introduction and technologies for disposables in “How to Reach the Point of Fill - Introduction Techniques into the Aseptic Core Area”. Additionally, you can expect to walk away with an array of key takeaways... Learn how to:

  • Design flexible, “combi” filling lines with ready-to-use vials and syringes
  • Manage isolator/barrier gloves effectively
  • Implement the newest technology in aseptic filling
  • Use robotics in fill-finish operations
  • Manage leachables and extractables effectively
  • Standardize single-use equipment for fermentation, purification, and fill-finish
  • Eliminate risks of contamination transfer through barrier technology management
  • Design small-scale filling operations for clinical use
  • Pioneer containment and sterility together in filling isolators
  • Understand ultra-flexible sterile facilities for multiple product families
