Isaiah Cedillo

Ionis Pharmaceuticals
Director, Manufacturing & Operations
Isaiah Cedillo graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. Shortly thereafter he began working at Ionis Pharmaceuticals in the Manufacturing & Operations department and has continued to work in that group for the past 15 years. In that time, he has focused primarily on manufacturing process research and development. In the early years the focus of his research was on the optimization of the solid-phase synthesis portion of oligonucleotide manufacturing. This effort was driven in large part by the cost of goods associated with this unit operation. Most notably, Isaiah was one of the inventors of a new polymeric solid support (PrimerSupport 5G) that was a contributing factor to an overall reduction in synthesis expense. As production of oligonucleotides has increased and the cost of raw and starting materials has come down, Isaiah’s research focus has broadened downstream operations to improve product recovery and purity.
