Within pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, energy consumption due to the maintenance of environmental conditions through operation of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems (HVAC) is typically the most significant energy user (often accounting for 50%–70% of total energy consumption). Accordingly, optimization and improvement initiatives in this area such as reducing the air change rates can provide some of the most significant opportunities for reduction in energy, with the associated reductions in cost and carbon footprint.
This presentation will provide methodologies for applying ICH Q9 “Quality Risk Management” to enable air change reductions to classified areas within pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities thereby reducing operating costs and carbon footprint.
