An anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium (Clostridium botulinum) that secretes botulin and inhabits soils. Clostridium botulinum produces 7 distinct toxins, types A through G. Botulinum toxin type A is the most studied of the 7 serotypes produced by the anaerobic bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Minute quantities of botulinum toxin type A offer significant potential in treating a wide variety of disorders associated with muscle overactivity. Botulinum toxin type A, currently commercialized under the trade name BOTOX®.

(IEEE) Testing for correct operation when one or more variables are at a limiting value or a value at the edge of the domain of interest.

(IEEE) A data value that corresponds to a minimum or maximum input, internal, or output value specified for a system or component.

(NBS) A selection technique in which test data are chosen to lie along "boundaries" of the input domain (or output range) classes, data structures, procedure parameters, etc. Choices often include maximum, minimum, and trivial values or parameters. This technique is often called stress testing.

A testing technique using input values at, just below, and just above, the defined limits of an input domain; and with input values causing outputs to be at, just below, and just above, the defined limits of an output domain.

Also known as bovine growth hormone, this protein is found naturally in cattle, and is the bovine counterpart of human growth hormone, one of the earliest biopharmaceutical products. It has been cloned, using recombinant DNA technology, expressed in large amounts and marketed as an agricultural product to improve the growth rate and protein:fat ratios in farm cattle, and to improve milk yield. Its use is banned in some countries.

Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies are a class of lethal diseases characterized by brain lesions. Examples of TSEs include scrapie in sheep and goats, BSE in cattle and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans. The appearance of a new variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease has raised concerns regarding the risk of transmission of these diseases from medicines containing certain bovine-derived ingredients.
